About our Balcom and Vaughan Organ
Our Balcom and Vaughan Opus 872 pipe organ stands 25 feet high encased in beautiful Honduras mahogany. Its current state is an enlargement and rebuild of the former Moller organ, completed in 1988 after a design by John Moir. The rebuild expanded the original six registers to a total of 22 registers and 25 ranks of pipes. Its slider wind chest sound 1,419 pipes. The new pipes were principally crafted by the Jacques Stinkens firm in Holland. According to its designer, John Moir, the organ is "deliberately eclectic". It is fashioned to play a wide variety of music as well as provide accompaniment for choral and congregational singing, its primary function.
With its beautiful facade pipes, our organ stands as a visual centerpiece of our sanctuary. More importantly, it serves as a gathering space for our congregation and the wider community to sing together, play together, and listen together.
